an $80 t-shirt taught me everything about app design

the weird color theory that's changing how I build apps

Seasonal Color Theory

Last year I stumbled onto this thing called "seasonal color theory."

It's a "subcategory" of fashion I guess… Basically, certain colors look good on you objectively. Others make you look like a noob.

It all depends on your skin tone, eye color, hair color... stuff like that.

(explains why that $80 shirt or suit or pants or pair of shoes sometimes just feels OFF no matter how much you love it or how good it looked on someone else)

So naturally I dove in to see if it was woo-woo BS or actually a real thing…

Turns out I'm a "Soft Autumn"... Instead of buying white t-shirts, I started buying cream ones.

Instead of red, I went with maroon. Here's the unexpected part:

This simple change made picking out clothes feel oddly… satisfying.

No more putting on a t-shirt, staring at myself in the mirror for 2 seconds, and then ripping it off and throwing it in the hamper…

Something as basic as matching colors to my natural palette had an actual visceral impact on how I felt.

What This Taught Me About Apps

paletteMatch the Vibe

Your design system should match your app's intended vibe. Just like colors need to match your skin tone or eye color. A crypto trading app should feel elite and cutting-edge. A meditation app should feel calm and zen. A fitness app might need to feel intense and motivating.

Most vibe coders miss this COMPLETELY.

They're so focused on making something that looks "innovative" that they forget about the emotional experience.

It's like wearing expensive clothes in all the wrong colors.

You look technically dressed up... But something feels off. When you nail the emotional design match? Users don't just use your app. They connect with it. They share it. They keep coming back.

This is what separates apps that blow up from apps that just... exist.

If you want to learn the exact framework for matching your app's design to its intended emotional impact...

Then you'll want to check out my latest YouTube video. I break down the specific steps for designing beautiful app screens that don't just look good - they FEEL right.
